Christmas!
Initially the toilet didn’t work, however we just couldn’t use the flush apparently, slightly embarrassing. We just relaxed for the rest of the afternoon before a very pleasant dinner and a couple of drinks. The bed here’s again on the very large side, however is encased in a mosquito net which makes getting in and out of it rather difficult.
After a brilliant night sleep (for me anyway) we woke up to Christmas morning! A very warm Christmas morning (not in the room though, that was beautifully cold). We didn’t really have anything on the agenda today apart from drinks and dinner tonight. Therefore, after breakfast, I got a snorkel out and headed into the sea while Amelia snagged a sun lounger by the pool. The sea was pretty rough heading out, so much so that I couldn’t see the ‘path’ to follow out to the reef because the sea was so choppy. I assumed the right direction was just straight into the sea and eventually came across the coral. It was probably more beautiful and colourful than at Moalboal however (spoiler), I unfortunately didn’t see any turtles. There was again loads of colourful fish around, of which I don’t know any names, and a floating pontoon to rest upon when the sea got a bit too choppy and my mask filled up with fog, which annoyingly happened quite a lot (definitely the masks fault and not mine).
I had eventually had enough and resigned to not seeing a turtle again I headed back to shore, just in time for a late Christmas lunch. Which definitely didn’t feel Christmassy at all. We spent the rest of the afternoon on the sun loungers next to the pool and headed back in to get ready for dinner around 4ish. I managed to get enough WiFi to call home (very nice) and found out about typhoon Phanfone which had passed over the northern tip of Cebu island, fortunately completely missing us. This explained the slightly rough sea conditions earlier on.
We had a few drinks of Prosecco and canapés at the waters edge overlooking the sunset (slightly hidden behind the clouds) before heading up into the dinner area (still outside but covered by a bamboo canopy). The dinner was a buffet of traditional lechon (pig), noodles, rice, prawns and veggies. Definitely not traditional, but I really enjoyed it. Amelia less so, she’s still feeling a bit iffy and is very sceptical about the meat so didn’t really enjoy the lechon. We were sat at the corner of a long table with a families on either side, Amelia got a bit emotional/homesick over not seeing her family/friends for Christmas so we headed back to the room after eating and binge watched a bit of One Tree Hill before settling down for the night. Not the best ending to what was a very different Christmas Day. I personally enjoyed it as it was completely different (never been snorkelling on Christmas Day before, might not ever again) but Amelia is finding it a bit tough.
