The final days in New Zealand
This is a fairly short blog as we didn’t actually do a whole lot for these last couple of days, just recovering from a brilliant weekend with Anna and getting ready for leaving New Zealand (sad).
We again had a leisurely start to the day before repacking all our stuff into the van and heading over to the Newcastle area of the city for brunch with one of Anna’s friends she met in Nepal (another potential destination). The food was ridiculously good, I had Eggs Benedict. After an emotional goodbye to Anna we headed up mount Eden, which is nowhere near as high as the other volcanoes in cities in New Zealand, but had a pretty great view. We were both pretty shattered at this point, we have had a brilliant weekend, so we just got back into the van and arrived in our final campsite at 4ish for an early night.
Not quite believing it’s our final day in New Zealand we got ready to leave and packed up all our possessions back into their bags and took the 20 minute drive into the city to drop off Iorek (now nicknamed Yo-yo). From the van depot to a storage locker on Queen Street just next to the bus stop to the airport was a 25 minute walk. Not having had to lug our bags round at all thus far has been great, but we’ll have to do it more now we’re going to be moving about a lot more without a campervan for company. We just had admin bits to get in the city today, I needed a long sleeved tee and some waterproof trousers for Borneo and Amelia wanted some earrings and a top as a momento of New Zealand. In the evening we went to the cinema to see Last Christmas as Amelia isn’t feeling Christmassy yet, which is definitely true, it’s far too warm to be Christmas.
I’m sitting at the airport writing this now reflecting on hat an amazing time New Zealand has been. It’s an amazing country and we will definitely be back, we could have probably spent the entire 6 months we’re travelling here and still had more places to see and things to do (also may have slightly broken the bank). However next up is the Borneo adventure and finally meeting the Orangutangs. Unbelievably excited.
