Queenstown

Again catching the 10 o’clock bus down to Queenstown after breakfast (cornflakes, toast and marmalade) we were planning a day adventuring around the city and eating as much as humanly possible, basically the same idea as Wellington and Vancouver. I think this is what we’re going to do in every city we get to; explore via our stomachs. The weather was surprisingly perky first thing so we went on a bit of a walk down towards Frankton marina, before turning back when the weather crept in. This meant we had legitimately earned our culinary delights later (or that’s what we told ourselves).

Arriving back into the town centre we headed straight to Fergburger, something we’d been recommended highly by literally everyone. It was clearly a popular spot as, despite the heavy rain, there was a queue running about 20 metres down the street. Being not inclined to wait in this I persuaded a hungry Amelia into waiting the crowds out and doing something else in the meantime. So we obviously headed for hot chocolates and pudding at Patagonia’s Chocolatiers. They have some beautiful patisserie and ridiculous ice creams here (which we’d indulged in post-hike the day before). Accompanied by a hot chocolate and puddings we outlined the rest of our time in New Zealand so we could book the ferry back to the North island ahead of time and plan in some fun activities (whale watching flight, stargazing, wine tasting, abseiling through waterfalls to see glow worms in caves...niche). This took a couple of hours, and with our bellies nicely warmed up we headed back to Fergburger. There was only a short queue out of the door by this time so we waited patiently and even managed to get in a prime seat by the window (very few seats in the shop itself, most just people standing around waiting for their burgers). The burgers themselves are ludicrous. Just massive, but absolutely delicious as well, I think the best burger I’ve ever tasted. We both had the Ferg Deluxe but all the others sound pretty great too.

Nicely topped up (very very full) we headed back out into the rain towards a sweet shop (obviously) where Amelia got some fudge (unnecessary). Then over to a bar for happy hour. There we discussed the rest of the trip over a bottle of Prosecco, because it was far more cost effective than getting glasses. We established the hotel I’d booked for Christmas in The Philippines is up to Amelia’s standards, and booked flights to Japan and within The Philippines itself. Exciting.

Our final destination was the Cookie Bar. Who do some ridiculous shakes, cookies and ice cream. We both got shakes and Amelia got some extra cookie dough and a free cookie because the girl serving us didn’t believe she would eat it all (she did). Feeling over full, with headaches from the sugar and slightly sick we got the shuttle back to the holiday park and settled ourselves in the lounge. Definitely no dinner required tonight.
