A train wreck, Lost Lake, Brandywine Falls & Paradise
The pillow on my bed in the hostel was too big so woke with a crooked neck, fist wold problems. Other than that the hostel was pretty much the same as the last one, excellent. We also had a room to ourselves which was nice. Over breakfast we worked out that we were actually within walking distance of a hike to a train wreck which I’d seen on some photographers website before so we did that. It was a great little walk, and the train wreck was pretty cool, definitely great for photos. We saw a sign that was entitled ‘part 2’ and infuriatingly couldn’t find ‘part 1’ so searched around for more train wreck for a while but gave up. Upon leaving we found ‘part 1’ over the suspension bridge we had hiked over to begin with, typical. Very interesting site though, and another piece of luck that we had stayed in a hostel literally next to the trail.
Following this we got back to Kevin and headed into Whistler to pick up some supplies and see the Lost Lake. Unfortunately it being a weekend meant the car park was full (last time we parked here it was monsoon rains on a weekday so evidently didn’t attract the crowds as effectively), so we just went straight over to the Lost Lake. It’s pretty, and has a large swimming lake with numerous pontoons which must be great fun in summer.
Leaving here we were off to Brandywine Falls. Yet another waterfall you ask? Yes. Canada has lots of mountains and therefore lots of waterfalls. This one was a larger version of Moul Falls. Sort of a Moul/Saphats hybrid. Very pleasant. We then hiked on to the Whistler Bungee Bridge over the Cheakamus River, a random but very pleasant little hike. There were bungee jumps in progress while we were there, which I considered, but decided against as I was far too scared. I at least made it across the very high scary bridge though, I even looked over the edge and down through the excessively large holes in the perforated metal footbridge, which I call a win. Small steps taken to overcome my fear of heights.
After a debate we felt that jumping back into #camperlife was the right way to go so planned on heading to Alice Lake campground again, after resupplying at Wallmart. This Wallmart was nothing like the excellence of the Vernon branch. How do Canadian superstores, which are excessively massive, not have any fresh produce whatsoever?! Very annoying so we’ll have to pick up fruit and veg tomorrow. Also Alice Lake was full, we realised it’s thanksgiving weekend here so evidently a lot of people have headed to the lake for fun. Therefore we’ve ended up at Paradise Valley campground, which seems lovely on the face of it. We even have a man laughing very loudly in the next campsite who sounds exactly like Seth Rogan. Winning.
