Whistler to Lillooet

It started tipping it down with rain at about 8 minutes to 6. I know because I was awake irrationally worrying that the neighbouring river (beautiful by the way, the kind of place you see bears acrobatically catching salmon in slow motion with David Attenborough narrating on tv) was going to overflow it’s banks and carry us and Kevin away. That obviously didn’t happen, but, nevertheless, it was the kind of day that back home in London you’d hear someone joking; ‘could’ve swam to work’. In summary, wet, very wet.

We went into Whistler for a nosey around and ended up with a Cows ice cream (big thing in Whistler apparently) and a couple of hot chocolates, but nothing else. Whistler seemed nice but was just far too wet to do anything productive so left for the first big drive of the trip.

4 hours later we ended up in Lillooet, the type of town that is the set for serial killer movies. Which included 2 Hotel/Pub/Liquor stores and a very out of place, fairly boutique looking clothes shop. We also found that no Canadian grocery stores have fruit or veg, every variety of crisps available but no health.

We went out bear hunting in the evening at the river next to the campsite. At this time of year lots of salmon end up dead on this stretch of the river (don’t know why, can’t remember which river) which acts as a buffet for black bears so they usually turn up on the bank in the evening. They didn’t this evening so we headed in for an early night.
