Revelstoke & Glacier National Parks

We may have gone to bed warmed and refreshed, however woke up very chilly indeed, despite the addition of socks and a top to the bedtime attire. This evenings pyjamas are to definitely include leggings. We needed to catch a ferry back over to Revelstoke this morning and knowing that it was only every hour we got up and left at 7:30, which, with my highly unnecessary semi-too-fast driving, we made with minutes to spare. The thought of sitting on the opposite bank, waiting for an hour just didn’t seem the best way forward.

We arrived at our first national park, Revelstoke, just after 9, which was lucky as it opens at 9 (not planned at all). We learned that the normal car park at the top was closed due to the cold weather so we had to park 6km below that. The winding road up to the ‘summit’ provides a number of beautiful viewpoints at which we got some great photos and numerous selfies (Amelia’s mastered the go pro now). Other visitors parking however left a lot to be desired, I won’t rant.

We parked up 6km from the summit and, after a brief tutorial of how to avoid getting eaten by grizzly bears, walked the rest of the way. It was snowing as we left Kevin (I did worry about him) and at the summit it was a magical, snowy Christmas scene. The photos I took will do for Christmas cards for the next few years. Jokes aside it was stunning and a real treat for our first visit to a national park.

We scrambled down and made it to our next pit stop at Glacier National Park, got some beautifully warm soup to warm us up, and headed out for a short 2 hour walk. Currently debating what to eat for dinner and whether we can just leave the fan heater on all night...
