A long drive & Halcyon Hot Springs
We actually had a lie in today. We were both awake a bit earlier but still only got up at 8ish and left the campsite at 10. Finally getting over the jet lag. Today was just about getting over to near the National Parks and to finally get some warmth through our bones at the Halcyon Hot Springs.
The drive was pretty uneventful. I missed all the petrol stations with $1.25 petrol and chose the one with $1.36 in another excellent piece of decision making. We also filled up our LP gas tank, which powers the fridge, water heater, fan heater and hob, which only needed a massive $2.39 to fill it up. We’ll be using the heater fan much more liberally in the future. 8m currently working on some form of pulley system to turn it on from the bed so we can get up to a toasty warm room.
We arrived at Halcyon hot springs just in time for lunch. Inevitably they didn’t have Amelia’s choice available for lunch (seems to always happen). After an excellent meal we donned the swimwear and prepared ourselves for likely the only hot bath we’ll have this whole trip. The views across a river towards snow topped mountains from a pool at 40 degrees was hugely satisfying. The cold plunge pool much less so (full disclosure; neither of us got in past the calf...not a glutton for that kind of punishment).
We camped at the other hot springs in the Nakusp region, which didn’t look anywhere near as good as Halcyon so we went to bed warmed, snug and refreshed.
